Thirty million transistors on the head of a pin. Think about that for a second.
Intel’s new revolutionary 45nm processors seem to defy the laws of physics. Yup – its rocket science and beyond folks. When it comes to processors comprised of 800 million+ transistors, every fraction of a micron counts.
Whether you fancy yourself a propeller head or a member of the geek community you know four cores running at 3.2GHz is just “freakin’ fast”. Though the Core 2 Extreme QX9770 was delayed last week we look forward to seeing it in Feb/March time frame.
There’s just no denying that Intel is completely unstoppable at the present time when it comes to engineering, manufacturing and delivering multi-core processors. No other semiconductor company in the world is shipping anything in volumes at 45nm.
Looks like we will see Quad-core processors go mainstream in 2008.
FUN FACTS: EXACTLY HOW SMALL (AND POWERFUL) IS 45 NANOMETERS?
